Role Summary
The Transportation Manager is responsible for the daily activities of the transportation operations and Ad-Hoc tasks, including planning, coordinating, and scheduling the use of systems and people. The Transportation Manager ensures the supervision and the proper use of resources and equipment for safe, high-quality, and productive delivery of third-party logistics services to meet client needs.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage the transportation operations of the warehouse, carrier, and dispatch personnel to achieve outlined objectives, organize daily meetings/regular communication to establish clear and attainable goals across the operations, quality, service, and profitability.
- Develop and direct work plans to ensure appropriate staffing levels at all times, including long range planning of labor needs based on customer sales forecasts and Management input.
- Establish and ensure the execution of operational procedures for activities as verification of incoming and outgoing shipments, handling and disposition of materials and inventory accuracy, and proactively managing active safety programs.
- Together with the Executive Team and Department Leaders, you will develop and manage programs to ensure the efficient and cost-effective operation and utilization of transportation operations and all transportation related equipment, identify and pursue continuous improvement opportunities.
- Proactively champion and manage programs to ensure the safety of all personnel, equipment, and property according to company policies and procedures, ensure a culture of safety throughout the organization, and monitor safety, physical security, and transportation metrics on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
- Continually coach, train, develop and assess team members both formally and informally through on the job training, formal training programs, and providing timely performance-based feedback. Regularly assess and complete performance reviews as scheduled.
- Attendance Tracking and Vacation Planning: Responsible for managing attendance, absences, and pre-approving overtime requests. Responsible for receiving vacation requests, reviewing, scheduling, approving, providing documented confirmation of approval or denial, and monitoring vacation time requested and taken and advising HR of any changes or revisions.
- Together with the VP of Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs, drive the Quality Assurance implementation and compliance by ensuring all direct reports have been trained and follow SOP. Escalate and work to resolve any quality and regulatory issues that are flagged.
- Ensures that all quality and regulatory requirements of Health Canada and other appliable authorities and client requirements are met. Responsible for ensuring team members follow GMP, SOPs, and Health and Safety requirements.
- Manage existing vendor relations and strive for continuous improvement to ensure operational expectations are met.
- Analyzing statistics and reports, specifically pertaining to Company shipping volumes and profitability.
- Assist in development of individual customer-specific programs.
- Manage negotiated contracts, purchase agreements and maintenance service agreements for the company’s equipment needs.
- Continuous improvement of Company Operations processes and systems.
- Champion the implementation of departmental policies, goals, objectives, and procedures.
- Play a significant role in long-term planning, including an initiative geared toward operational excellence.
- Act as escalation point-of contact for all clients, and direct point-of-contact for key clients.
- Perform any additional Operational, Analytical, and/or Leadership tasks as needed by the Company.
Qualifications and Education
- 7+ years experience in Contract Logistics, 3PL, Distribution Centre, Warehouse environment.
- 5+ years management experience in high volume, fast paced distribution centre, warehouse environment.
- Diploma/ Degree in International Business, Transportation, Logistics, or related field preferred, and or relevant experience to the role.
Additional Requirements
- Must be fluent in Hindi and Punjabi.
- Experience managing truck drivers an asset.
- Experience in a pharmaceutical distribution centre an asset.
Core Competencies

- Knowledge of technical processes related to standard warehouse equipment and applications such as racking, WMS systems and MHE.
- Strong knowledge of GMP regulations, occupational health and safety and employment standards legislation, and of common workplace hazards and associated controls (Bill C45).
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills in a team environment.
- Good understanding of company operations, and cost structures.
- Advanced computer skills, including proficiency with MS Office Suite (advanced Excel). Familiarity with backup and recovery software and methodologies.
